SKY WATCHER EVENTS

Super Blood Moon Total Lunar Eclipse

On the night of Sunday January 20, 2019 the moon will put on a spectacular show.

The Sun, Earth, and the Moon will line up so that the Earth’s shadow will engulf the moon creating a total eclipse of the Moon.
This will be the last lunar eclipse in the USA until 2022. The Moon will be at close approach to the earth (near perigee) making it appear up to 14% larger than normal (Super Moon) and will make totality last for just over an hour. In central Texas totality will begin at about 10:40pm and end about 11:43pm.

The red color (Blood Moon) is when the sunlight passes through the Earth’s atmosphere and the red visible light is bent to cast a reddish shadow onto the Moons surface. This is similar to sunset.

Come on out to the Eagle Eye Observatory at Canyon of the Eagles and enjoy the show with us!
