Eagle Eye Observatory ~ Twilight Program

June 21, 2019 @ 8:30 pm - 9:45 pm

Join us for an educational Twilight Program that takes place before our Dark Sky Program.
There is no telescope viewing during the Twilight Program. This program consists of educational video and images of the night sky, as well as special target discussions on what you will see at the Dark Sky Program.

SKY WATCHER EVENTS ~ JUNE
During the summer months if you happen to be in a dark sky area, the Milky Way is at its brightest. This is because while looking south during the evening hours you can see the Teapot asterism in the constellation Sagittarius. While looking that direction you are looking toward the center of our galaxy where the most stars occur.

The brightest planets are beginning to show up in our summer sky. Jupiter rises by 10:00 pm and marches across the sky all night. On Tuesday, July 14 Jupiter will be at opposition. This means Jupiter and the Earth will be at closest approach to each other, approximately 400 million miles apart.

Jupiter is followed later in the evening by Saturn, and by midnight it shows itself beautifully in small telescopes and even binoculars.

All summer long there are many deep sky objects (DSOs) to view with medium to large telescopes, especially during moonless nights. DSO objects include star clusters, galaxies, emission and planetary nebula, globular clusters and supernova remnants.

Come on out and enjoy the night sky with us at the Eagle Eye Observatory.
